A good day for singlespeeds....

We spent all day Saturday at Camp Ingawanis preparing for Sunday's MTB race. Except for the hordes of thirsty skeeters and ticks, Saturday was perfect! The trails were awesome and the new course was the best ever.

Sunday rolled around and we headed up to camp at 6:30 in the morning with ugly clouds in the sky and winds that were down right scary. All the prep was done and the racers started showing up slowly. The beginners started their race at 10 sharp and the kids race went off without a hitch at 10:30. Toward the end of the beginners race the rains started. By the time the sport/experts started it was raining hard. This course was intended to be 6 1/2 miles of mostly singletrack with lots of climbs and fast decents. Whoaaaaa..... It sure changed quickly. MUD everywhere! What was neat though was that there was no whining. Just racing and smiles. You'll have to check out Kerkove's site for 140 pictures. (Don't pay any attention to the handsome bastard standing outside the porta-pottie) The sand hill was a nice touch. It was about 60 to 70 meters of deep sand at about a 15% grade halfway through the course. Not ridable. Old school. Classic. Awesome. The racers actually liked it! Woohoo!

It couldn't have been done without the leadership and vision of Jackal, Casey Dean, and Kerkove and all the sponsors and volunteers who made it happen!

Ivan Basso's situation makes me want to cry.
The state of professional cycling in general, and the witch hunting paranoia of the governing bodies in particular, make me want to puke. Cycling can't "clean up" it's act until the governing bodies clean up their own. I believe that all of the governing bodies have lost all credibility and that the direction that they are taking is futile. Actually, I'm not sure what I believe any longer.... Whatever it is, it isn't good. I'm jaded.

Ride safe.

Peace out, yo!

Blue - I feel your pain on the Basso thing. At this point, I think everyone accused is guilty until they can prove otherwise. A simple, "I never doped", just won't cut it for me anymore.
